Top 10 Casinos - Lousiana-Mississippi

One of the fastest growing casino areas in the world is the Gulf Coast of New Mexico, with Louisana and Mississippi casinos dotting the landscape. Many of the best casinos around are in this area. They draw heavily from Texas, which is filled with gamblers but has no casinos; and the upper gulf coast, Alabama and Georgia. The Southeast part of the U.S. now has a full range of casinos along the I-10 corridor.

Here are the top ten casinos Louisiana and Mississippi, in no particular order:

1) Laberge du Lac, Lake Charles, La. A massive casino that would just as easily fit in Las Vegas. It is upscale, beautiful and the jewel of Lake Charles. A poker room is expected to be completed in 2009, but otherwise it has everything a casino fan could possibly want.

2) Coushatta, Kinder, La. North of Lake Charles and a little harder to get to from Texas and Baton Rouge, this is an outstanding casino with all the amenities. It has an excellent poker room and has hosted many big tournaments.

3) Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Bossier City. Harrah’s took a struggling racetrack and made it into a huge success, with an excellent casino that caters specifically to the Dallas market.

4) Harrah’s New Orleans. One of the most underrated Harrah’s properties, this is the jewel of New Orleans and has almost everything you look for in a casino.

5) Delta Downs racetrack and Casino, Vinton. A very nice little slot casino, it does not have a poker room, so many of the Texas players keep going to Lake Charles. But it does feature live horse racing.

6) Isles of Capri, Lake Charles. A casino boat, it hasn’t been the same since hurricane Rita blew threw and hurricane Laberge du Lac joined the fray. But it still has a nice poker room and is a neat place to stay.

7) Beau Rivage Resort, Biloxi. This was one of the best casinos anywhere before hurricane Katrina. It is making a comeback.

8) Bally’s Reorts Tunica, Tunica, Miss. Part of a strong group of casinos in Tunica, this one has Harrah’s behind it.

9) Hollywood Casino, Bay St. Louis. Closer to Florida, another nice casino.

10) Isle of Capri, Biloxi. Another making a comeback after Katrina.

Hurricane did a lot of damage to many casinos, but they have bounced back. There is no shortage of options in the area, and Laberge is one of the nicest places you will find anywhere. The same goes for the classy Coushatta and Harrah’s New Orleans. These top ten casinos in the region give players all sorts of options.

All of the Harrah’s properties in particular are first rate, and players can use their Total Rewards cards at any of them. There are also dozens of smaller independent casinos all over the region. There is no sports betting, and horse betting is allowed at the tracks only, but they all have most other table games and slot machines at the top ten casinos in the region.
